Where Golden Temple is located?

The famous Golden Temple is located in Amritsar, India. Amritsar is a city of the state of Punjab in India, predominantly occupied by Sikhs. The Golden Temple is a “Gurdwara”: an extremely sacred place of worship for the Sikhs. In India, the Golden Temple is more popularly known as “Harmandir Sahib” or “Darbar Sahib” in the Punjabi language. The architecture of the Golden temple consists of a combination of Hindu, Muslim, as well as, European architectural styles. Every day, over two hundred thousand people pay a visit to the Golden Temple to worship. There is also a “Langar” at the Golden Temple, which is a free meal service for the worshippers who come to pay a visit to it. This meal is prepared by volunteers and is considered to be a means of earning great virtue.

Harmandir Sahib, which means the Temple of God, was the vision of Guru Ram Das ji. His dream was fulfilled in the form of the completion of the Golden Temple by Guru Arjun Dev Ji 1604. Years later, in 1764, Maharaja Jassa Singh Ahluwalia rebuilt the Golden Temple. Marble and the golden plating were added to the temple in 1830 by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
