The currency of Namibia is Namibian Dollar- N$. It is the principal feature of the economy of Namibia. In 1990 Namibia got independence from South Africa, so they used South African Rand as currency before then. But still it is accepted legally in Namibia.
Namibian Dollar got introduced in 1993, their currency code is NAD. It is divided into 100 cents. On September 1993, The Bank of Namibia issued first banknotes and coins.
They have coins of 5, 10 and 50 cents, and 1 and 5 Dollar. 5 and 10 cent has the mark of a tree on it and 1 and 5 dollar has eagle on it.
Banknotes of Namibian Currency are 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 dollars. 50 hundred and 200 hundred dollars feature the portrait of Namibian Hero “Hendrik Witbooi”. He was known to be the king of Namaqua people. He was also the first person who stood against German rule in 1904.
5 and 10 dollar banknotes depict the portrait of Sam Nujoma, who was the first President of Namibia. He was one of the South-West African leaders who struggled for getting independence. Hence, after 24 years of war Namibia got independence.
