Australia is the smallest continent of the world and the sixth largest country of the world after Russia, Canada, China, USA and Brazil. It is located in the southern hemisphere and is surrounded by the Pacific and Indian Ocean. As it is surrounded by water so normally, it is considered as an island but researchers believe that it is large enough to be considered as a continent. Its overall area is 7,692,024 (square kilometers). Most of the people consider it as the part of Asia, that’s why people sometimes called it Australasia and another name of this continent is Oceania because it is surrounded by two large Oceans (Pacific and Indian). This is the reason, Australia has more than 10,000 beaches. Thousands of travelers, come to Australia every year and enjoy the beaches here. Scientists estimate that about 80% of Australia’s marine species are found nowhere else in the world with more than 4,000 varieties of fish and tens of thousands of species of invertebrates, plant and micro-organisms. Till 9 August, 2011 the total population of Australia was 21,727,158.
