Big Ben is located in London. It is a clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. The tower is spread on 50 square feet area and is 316 feet high, it is the third highest free standing clock tower in the world. It is a four faced clock, whatever side one is at the time on the clock can still be seen. The tower has been made in the Gothic style and is predominantly made up of bricks and sand. It has 334 stairs to get to the top, still because of the size of each step it is quite a sprint for the operators of the clock to reach the top.

The Big Ben bell on the top of the tower weighs about 13.5 tons and has a diameter of 9 feet. This bell rings every hour and let the people know the time. There are four quarter bells with it which weighs 1 tons, 1.25 tons, 1.6 tons and 3.5 tons. All the four dials have the diameter of 23 feet. The numerals on the dial are written in Roman.

On the Diamond Jubilee Year  2012, of Queen Elizabeth II, the name of clock tower was replaced by Elizabeth Tower for paying tribute to the Queen. All the members of the Parliament supported this change.
