Another name by which Jahangir is known in the annals of history is Shahzada Saleem. Jahangir was the first surviving child of Akbar The Great, who was a well known King of Mughal Empire. Jahangir was also called as Shekhoo Baba by his father’s mentor Sheikh Salim Chisti.

Birth And Death:

The third and the eldest surviving son of the Great King of Mughal Empire-Akbar was Jahangir whose original name was Mohammad Salim. He was born after so many prayers on 20 September, 1569. Salim was the fourth Moghol ruler who forcefully accessed to the throne only 8 days after his father’s death. His father wanted to appoint his grandson as the emperor of Mughal dynasty. His rule was started on 15th of October,1605 and after lasting for 22 years it was ended on 8th of November, 1627 by his death in Kashmir and he was buried in Chingus Fort, Kashmir. His body was transferred afterwards to Shahdara Bagh in Lahore, Punjab by his son Shah Jahan.

His Work:

Shahzada Saleem’s aesthetic sense urged him to be a great painter, his bravery made him a great conqueror, his love for arts made him a good builder and his inherited love for Islam made him a good servant of the religion. He married three women  Manbhawati Bai, Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani and Nur Jahan in his life but he loved Noor Jahan the most. She was a sharp women who was given the charge of state affairs. Jahangir resurrected the glory of Islam and supported Wahdaniat which was demolished by his father Akbar who invented a new religion Deen- E – Elahi. Akbar expanded his empire and crushed almost 6 rebellions and significantly increased the size of the empire. He also had some love for science as well. Overall, Jahangir was a good emperor who remained popular in the history of Mughals in sub-continent. He was succeeded by his son Shah Jahan.
