Largest Nuclear Power Station of Pakistan
Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) is the Largest Nuclear Power Station of Pakistan. KANUPP is a single unit CANDU PHWR with a total gross capacity of 137 Mega Watts. It has been in commercial operation since 1972. It is located at Paradise Point on the arid Arabian Sea Coast, about 15 miles to the west of Karachi. KANUPP is part of Karachi Nuclear Power Complex (KNPC) and is owned and operated by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). It is also the first nuclear power plant in Pakistan.
By capacity Chasma is the largest nuclear power plant which produces 300 MW of electricity. Chasma II, III and IV have also been approved and Chasma II is operational with 325 MW of electricity generating capacity. Similarly, Chashma 2 and 3 will be operational in near future with 325 MW of capacity.
