The currency of Sudan is Sudanese pound or Junaih. Sudanese people use Sudanese pound for their day-to-day transactions whereas Junaih is the Arabic name of this currency. The ISO 4217 code for Sudanese pound is SDG. The same currency was used in south Sudan until the finalization of South Sudanese pound. The very first currency, which was introduced in Sudan, was Egyptian pound. Mahdi and Khalifa regulated coins along with the Egyptian currency. Egyptian pound was replaced by Sudanese pound in 1956, which was introduced at par value of Egyptian pound.

One pound is divided into 100 Quirsh (Arabic) or piaster (English). Mahdi and Khalifa during their rule sub divided the Quirsh into 40 para. In 1916, the Egyptian Quirsh was divided into 10 millim, which was later on applied on Sudanese pound. This was the first time when the pound was introduced in Sudan and its ISO code was SDP. In 1992, the pound was replaced by Dinar and one Dinar was equal to 10 pounds. And ISO code for Dinar was SDD. In the year 2007, according to peace agreement between the Government of Republic of Sudan and The Sudan’s people Liberation movement, the Sudanese pound was launched again. The ISO code for this new currency was SDG. New measures were made to recognize the value of this currency. This time one pound was allocated the value equivalent to 10 Dinars (SDD) or 1000 pounds (SDP).
