Currency of Oman
Omani riyal is known as the official currency of Oman. Its code is OMR. Baisa is the further subdivision of riyal and 1 riyal is equal to 100 biasa. In the first half of nineteenth century the major currency used in musket and Oman were Indian rupee and Maria Theresa thaler. However after the end of first half of nineteenth century coins were introduced in Oman in 1970 Saudi riyal was made the major currency of Oman. Nevertheless, the official currency the Omani riyal was introduced in the country in 1976. Saudi riyal was changed to Omani riyal because of the separation of states and regimes.
5, 10, 25 and 50 coins are made by the government and 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 riyal notes were published after 1970. Initially it did not gain any much importance in international market but with the passage of time it has became the third highest rating currency in international market. Oman has a very settled economy, which started prospering in twentieth century. From last few years petroleum and fuel export have caused Oman to become a highly developed country. 1 US dollar is equal to 0.4 riyal previous year.
