Currency of Netherlands
The currency of Netherlands is called as Euro and denoted by EUR. However, the old currency of Netherlands was Dutch Guilder, which remained until 2002, and then euro replaced it. But, Dutch guilder also remained the subunit or smaller unit of euro for four years. In Netherlands Antillean guilder is still available in Curacao and sin marten. The old currency name was derived from Dutch language in which it means golden money because Dutch guilder was made of gold initially. The symbol used for Dutch guilder was f or fl. Nowadays 1 Euro is equal to 2.2 Dutch guilders.
In 1680, the first Dutch guilder was printed in Netherlands by the state of Holland and west Friesland. After the replacement of guilder with euro, guilder coins remained available and in use as an alternative and exchange for the euro notes. Though, Dutch guilder is still in use only in this country, this exchange of money is expected to be remain in future for a not a very long time. The coins contained the shape of the country queen inscribed on them however, with the passage of time and replacement of currency this trend has became extinct. Netherlands has prosperous and well-settled economy and ranks sixteenth largest economy holder in the world.
