The currency of Mongolia is togrog, also pronounced tugrik. The sign of tugrik is ₮ and its code is MNT. Historically, Mongolian Dollar was the currency of Mongolia, which is subdivided into 100 mongo. This currency was replaced by togrig in 1925, whereas one togrig and one ruble (currency of Russia) have equal value. One Togrig and Rubel are equal to the 18 grams of silver.

After the end of Mongolian Republican Era ended, the new coin series was introduced in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 togrog. 20 and 50 togrog coins were made of Alumminium and coins of 100, 200 and 500 togrog were made up of Cupronickel. All the coins features the picture of Mongolian’s National Symbol called Soyombo, whereas 500 togrog coin also features the portrait of their national hero Damdin Sukhbaatar, who is known for his struggles for the independence of Mongolia.

The banknotes are in denomination of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 and 100 togrog. 1 togrog features Soyombo and a lion on each side, while 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 togrog has the portrait of Damdin Sukhbaatar and Soyombo on one side and picture of mountainous landscape along with horses eating grass is featured on other side.
The new issued banknotes of 500, 1000, 5000, 20,000 and 50,000 feature the portrait of Genghis Khan.
