The currency of Moldova is Leu. The ISO code for Leu is MDL. The Leu is further divided in to 100 bani. This name for the official currency of Moldova is taken from Romania, of which the official currency is also LUE. The name of both the currencies is also the same meaning lion. This similarity is because Moldova was once the part of Romania in nineteenth century but became an independent state later on. Moldavian Leu was first published in 29 November 1993.
