The currency of Kazakhstan is Tenge and it consists of 100 tiin. Tenge is a Turkic word, which means a set of scales. Up to 1993, the currency of Kazakhstan was named as Rouble. Coins of Tenge currency are available in the denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tiyin. The tenge unit coins are 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20. These coins were started to mint in 1993 and bronze material was used for this purpose. In 1995, these were replaced by the brass, copper-nickel and bimetallic coins.

Commemorative coins are also available with higher values and in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 and 10000 tenge. Some coins are also minted in silver and gold material. Currency notes are also the medium of exchange in Kazakhstan and these circulate in country with denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tiyn, and 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tenge. Higher value notes started to print in 1994 and later periods. At present times, the bank notes are available in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000. An amazing fact about these notes is that the text written on the backside of 200 tenge note is in Kazakh script while the script on the other bank notes is in Russian language.
