Republic of Haiti is located on an island of Caribbean. It occupies some land of island of Hispaniola. Unfortunately, Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas.
The currency of Haiti is gourde. Its ISO code is HTG and its symbol is G. Currency of Haiti is an old currency, the first time it was introduced in 1831. At that time, it was issued in the form of coins. Initially, they were made of silver but in 1863, they replaced silver with the bronze ones. In 1870 banknotes were issued for the value 10 and 25 by the National Bank of Haiti. The notes were linked to the French franc with the value of 1 franc equal to 5 gourdes. This move did not turn out to be a fruitful so in 1912 gourde was linked to the US dollar with one dollar equal to five gourde. In 1920 coins stopped circulating and notes of 1, 2, 5 and 10 gourde notes were issued. Soon they were followed by 50 and 100 gourdes in 1925. These notes circulated for 50 years before 1970s 250 and 500 notes were issued they were followed by 1000 gourdes notes in 1999. There had been no major changes in Haiti currency since 1999.
