Which Device is Used to Convert Alternate Current into Direct Current?
Transformer is used to convert alternating current into direct current. A transformer is a static device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another through inductively coupled conductors—the transformer’s coils. A varying current in the first or primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer’s core and thus a varying magnetic field through the secondary winding.

this answer is absolutely wrong.because transformer only change the voltage level or current.it can not change the frequency and types like AC to DC.device that convert AC to DC that is rectifier.it mostly made by diode or semi conductor.
