The name of the capital of the United States of America is Washington, D.C. It is the historical city where the world-famous building, the White House, is situated. White House has been the residence of all the US presidents throughout history, and remains so to this day. Washington, D.C. is a federal district, which is the center for the government of USA and the US legislature. It was declared as the capital city of USA by the US Constitution in 1791. It has been named in honor of Christopher Columbus, the founder of USA, and George Washington, the first president of USA. The official slogan of Washington, D.C. is “Justitia Omnibus”, which means “Justice for All”.

The design and plan of Washington, D.C. was presented by Pierre Charles L’Enfant, a French architect and engineer. This city covers an area of 68.25 miles squared, with Maryland and Virginia as the neighboring States. Two rivers, namely Potamic and Anacostia, flow through Washington, D.C. According to a demographic survey which was carried out in 2010, the population of United State’s capital is 601, 723, with an approximately equal male to female ratio.

Apart from being the country’s federal capital, Washington, D.C. is house to many other world famous tourist attractions, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Rock Creek Park, the National Zoological Park, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, the World War II Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial and several other memorials.
