Capital Of North Korea
Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea. It is also the largest city of North Korea with a population of 3,255,388 as of 2011. Total area of Pyongyang is 3,194 km2. Pyongyang is directly controlled by the federal government. It doesn’t come under any provincial government; the city is a province in itself. The city of Pyongyang was almost totally destroyed during the war with South Korea. The city was completely rebuilt and it has world class buildings, wide streets and roads now but still it is not as much developed as the capital of South Korea Seoul. Historically, North Korea was occupied by the Soviet Union after the World War LL. Soviet Union forces departed from North Korea in 1948 and on 9th September 1948 North Korea formally became independent.
The tourist’s rate is low in the city because all the ancient buildings were destroyed during the war with Korea. The only thing that attracts tourist is a golden statue of King ll-Sung. But now the government has undertaken many projects to attract the tourists. New 100000 houses are under construction since 2011. But the most remarkable project under construction is the Ryugyŏng Hotel. It has 105 floors and area of each floor is 361,000 square meters.
