In which medium light travels the fastest?

Light travels fastest in Vacuum. The speed of light in vacuum is almost 299,792,458 meters per second, which is 1.0003 times faster than light travelling in air. In different theories and equations of physics, the speed of light is represented by the symbol “c” and the speed of light in vacuum is written as “c_0″”. The famous Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity has shown that the speed of light is constant under given situations.

At the early times, the Greek, European and Muslim scientists believed that light travels with a finite but fast speed. This concept was supported by the Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity, which explains that the light travels with a faster speed but it is not infinite. Some people used to believe that the speed of light might be infinite because as we open eyes we can see the stars immediately. That time Aristotle believed that the light exists because of the presence of something but it does not move or travel. This concept was accepted by the Muslim scientists that came later. In 13^th century, scientists argued that the speed of light is finite in air but it is in infinite in vacuum. Later on, the further researches have shown that the speed of light is finite. However, it is also believed that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.
