Biggest Dam in India

The biggest Dam of India according to Height:

Tehri Dam is the biggest dam in India in terms of its height being 260 meters and 575 meters in length. It also counts as the eighth tallest dam in the world. Its initial structure was completed in 2006 and some other parts are still under construction. It is a high rock and earth-fill embankment dam and capable of producing up to 1000MW hydroelectricity. Other usages of water reservoir of Tehri Dam include irrigation, municipal water supply.

According to Reservoir Capacity:

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is the biggest dam in India according to reservoir capacity measuring up to 9,371,845 acre ft. It is located across the Krishna River in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh. It is the best example of technological advancement and expert architectural measures as its water reservoir is the largest man-made lake of the world. The height of this dam is 124 meters, and installed capacity can generate up to 816MW hydroelectricity.

According to Hydroelectric Power Generation Capacity:

Sardar Sarovar Dam is the biggest dam in India when measured according to the hydroelectric power generation capacity, which stands at 1450 MW. The second name of this dam is “Narmada Dam” as it is situated over the Narmada River near Navagam Gujrat and takes the water reservoir capacity of 7,701,775 acre ft. Its height is 163 meters approximately, 1.6 Km long and it has 26 gates.
