Deepest Lake In British Columbia

The deepest lake in British Columbia (Canada) is Quesnel Lake. But it is not the deepest lake of Canada. The origin of this lake is Quesnel River. And the major inflows are Horsefly River and Mitchell River. As it is the origin of glaciers, Quesnel Lake is considered as a glacial lake and it is claimed to be the deepest fjord lake in the world as well.

Since early 1900s, The name of this lake is after the name of a trader, Arthur Quesnel, who used to live in the town known as Manigotagan.

The maximum depth of this lake is about 610 meters. Length wise it is about 48 kilometers long in North and 100 kilometers in East. It has three arms, each of them are 25 miles long. The total surface are covered by this lake is 266 square kilometer. Surface elevation of this lake is 728 meters. The volume of water in this lake is about 41.8 cubic kilometers.

Another salient feature of this lake is “Trophy Rainbow Trout” which is precious water specie. Apart from this one Quesnel lake also has a huge population of Dolly Varden, Ling Cod and Lake Trout.
