The capital of Ukraine is Kiev. It is situated in the north-central region of Ukraine and spreads over an area of 827 square kilometers. The population of Kiev is 2, 794, 000 according to a demographic survey conducted in 2010 whereas the area code for Kiev is 44.

The history of Kiev can be traced back to the 5th century when it was used to be a significant commercial hub of Europe. In the 9th century, it was declared as the capital of the Kievan Russia. Long afterwards, this city was captured by the Mongols in the year 1240. About four centuries later, Kiev merged with the Russian Empire. Finally, the USSR took hold of this region in the year 1920.

A number of significant industries are located in Kiev, including textiles, chemical industries, the food processing industries, coal, oil and gas industries, woodworks, metallurgy and numerous other important industries, which contribute towards the prosperity of the entire country. In fact, there are 350 major industries operating in the capital of Ukraine.

Kiev is also a tourist spot due to its ancient history as well as contemporary attractions. The major attractions located in Kiev include theaters, museums, the Shevchenko Theater of Opera and Ballet and several other cultural venues.
