The capital of Saudi Arabia is Riyadh, which is also the capital of the Riyadh Province, as well as the largest city in the country. It belongs to the lands of Najd and Al-Yamama, and is known as ‘The Gardens’ in English. Situated on a plateau in the center of Arabian Peninsula, Riyadh is the urban center of Saudi Arabia, with a population of about 5, 254, 560 people. Geographically, the city is divided into 15 municipal districts, which are under the leadership of the mayor of Riyadh, Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Mogbel, and the Governor of Riyadh Province, Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz.

What used to be known as Hajr in the Pre-Islamic era, is now Riyadh, one of the major cities of Saudi Arabia; that has over 4, 300 mosques and hosts the largest all female university in the world. The city has a distinguished Arabic speech pattern, called the Najdi dialect, which is not only one of the most widely recognized Arabic accents, but also widely spoken in Arabia; English is also widely spoken and understood by the people here. Usually arid, hot in the summer, mildly cold in winters, and often hit by dust storms, the city’s most popular sport is football and the nejdi dish kabsa is the most traditionally preferred meal.
