Peru is located in the desert and its capital is Lima. Despite being placed in the desert Lima is still world’s 16th most popular city. It is also the second biggest city located in the desert after Cairo. Total area of the Lima is 2700 km sq. The population of Lima city is 7,605,742 as of 2011. About 33% population of the Peru lives in Lima. Peru is located in western South America. It is an old country who got its independence from Spain in 11821. Peru was recognized as a county in 1879.

Unfortunately Lima has lost its colors recently because of rapid population growth as a city cannot be expanded because it is limited from east by the Pacific Ocean and from the west by the Andes. So Lima has to cope with the growth in population without expanding its area. There is a heavy air population (there is hardly a rain in Lima) and poor transport system. Sometimes roads in Lima are jammed for hours. Due to these problems and high crime rate tourist are hesitant to visit Lima which is hurting the economy of Peru badly.

One of the most remarkable historical places in Lima is the National University of San Marcos which is the oldest university in the Americas.
